Dear Councilman Morton;
I read with amazement that the City of Coppell has approved
$35,000 for drainage improvements on Pelican Lane and Bethel
School Road. A single storm was sufficient for the city
engineer to make this recommendation.
My home also suffered flooding on July 12, as did m~ny of my
neighbors. But this is nothing new. Every rain greater than a
drizzle floods our garages and often our homes. The alley behind
our homes is inadequately graded to provide sufficient
drainage.
I have tried, unsuccessfully, since 1985, to motivate the city
to address my drainage problem. Letters and phone calls to the
public works department are a waste of time. For the most part
phone calls are never returned. The only action on the city's
part was a six-inch-wide, one-inch-deep trench down the middle
of the alley which barely handles runoff from sprinkler systema.
Apparently, to receive city services one must reside in the
Woodlands. Even then, a petition is necessary to force the city
to correct problems. This information needs to be made
available to potential homebuyers considering Coppell.
