Comment From Mr. Mark Leonard Concerning Construction on Woodhurst
February 10, 1993
After the staff meeting on February I0, 1993, I spoke with my Inspector concerning the
construction associated with Woodhurst, Shadowerest, and Sandy Knoll. After talking to my
Inspector, it is obvious that the City is making every effort to provide a safe vehicular
environment in this area.
Currently, Sandy Knoll, between Shadowcrest and Woudhurst, is barricaded due to construction.
This creates a problem for vehicles traveling from the WoodhursffWoudway area to go north to
Sandy Lake or south from Sandy Lake Road. The only bypass street is Willow Springs which
is a substantial distance away. The subdivision in general is laid out with numerous cul-de-sacs.
People that live in the area should be aware of alternative routes to get around the barricades
on Sandy Knoll. Some alternate mutes would be to utilize the alley to bypass the area, to use
Willow Springs to bypass the area, or to take Woodhurst to Heartz Road to bypass the area.
Obviously the barricading of the street is of a temporary nature and, depending on the weather,
could be removed within two to three weeks.
The City has done various things to provide a safe vehicular environment. These include: (1)
notifying the Police Department, Fire Department, and garbage pickup concerning the
construction in the area; (2) barricading the section of Sandy Knoll between Shadowcrest and
Woodhurst; and (3) installing a street closed sign on Sandy Knoll for southbound traffic. The
City is also in the process of installing a detour sign at the intersection of Woudhurst and Willow
Springs to point out the alternative route around the construction area for people wishing to go
northbound to Sandy Lake Road and a no thru traffic sign on Woudhurst.
Any time construction takes place in a neighborhood, the City expects some complaints and
makes every attempt to respond to those complaints. However, there are situations at times that
in order to provide a finished product, some inconvenience is suffered by the adjacent citizens
in the neighborhood. Every attempt has been made to expedite this construction to reopen Sandy
Knoll as soon as possible.
If I can provide you any additional information concerning this, please feel free to contact me
at your convenience.
