Jeff:
We have reviewed the grading situation at the drive approach to Bethel Road and the proposed
resolution as submitted by the contractor. In addition, to assist in resolving the grading issue, our survey
crew performed surveying in this area in order to confirm as-built elevations, structure locations, etc.
The following items should be noted:
1. Our survey data confirms the low point along the edge of existing Bethel Road is 5' +/- east of
the existing culvert crossing. The elevation of this low point is 503.04.
2. The storm manhole in the drive approach was built 5' +/- north of its designed location. It's top
of manhole elevation is currently 502.80 (design = 503.90)
3. The 24" headwall flowline at the southeast corner of the drive approach is currently built to
elevation 502.39 (design = 503.00)
As a result, we offer the following:
Since the 24" headwall flowline at the southeast corner of the drive approach is built lower than
designed and the storm manhole in the drive approach is closer to the road, a swale can be graded from
the low point of the Bethel Road edge of pavement to the southeast to flow to the 24" headwall. This
will drain the low area along the edge of Bethel Road. The remainder of the drive approach and the
storm manhole can be constructed as designed. Consequently, no grate cover is needed for the storm
manhole and the majority of the drive approach, other than the swale to drain the low area along Bethel
Road, will be as per designed.
We have included an exhibit attached herewith for coordination purposes. If you require any additional
information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
