GENERAL NOTES
DENTON TAP ROAD AT HIGHLAND DRIVE TRAFFIC SIGNAL
GENERAL
The locations of traffic signal foundations, bases, conduit, ground boxes, detection
areas, etc. are diagrammatic and may be adjusted by the engineer to accommodate
actual field conditions.
Although the plans approximately conform to the indicated scale, the positional
relationship of some system components and equipment may have been distorted for
purposes of clarity.
WORK ZONES
All work zones shall be signed and set up to conform to the Texas Manual on Uniform
Traffic Control Devices (TXMUTCD).
TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROLLER
For purposes of compatibility with existing equipment, the traffic signal controller unit for
this project shall be the Naztec TS-2 (Type 2) actuated traffic signal controller. The
controller shall conform to NEMA Standards Publication No. TS-2-1992 Traffic
Controller Assemblies as a minimum requirement. The NEMA TS-2 (Type 2) controller
shall also support the new NTCIP (National Transportation Communications for Its
Protocol) specified in NEMA Standards Publication No. TS-3.1-1996.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROLLER CABINET FOUNDATION
Install cabinet foundation per standard sheet, TS-CF-04.
MALFUNCTION MONITOR UNIT
For purposes of compatibility with existing equipment, the malfunction monitor unit shall
be the Naztec TS-1 Model NM512-E123 NEMA Conflict Monitor. The malfunction
monitor unit shall support an RS-232 port for a personal computer, printer, or traffic
controller interface, and it shall have an LCD display. This shall be the only suitable
product the City shall accept.
SPREAD TRANSCEIVER
For purposes of compatibility with existing equipment, the spread spectrum transceiver
shall be the MDS 9810 900 MHZ Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum Transceiver. It
shall be FCC approved for licensed or independent use. It shall provide support for
point to multipoint operation, master-slave configuration control, and repeater
functionality. It shall support RS-232 interface for asynchronous communication. This
shall be the only suitable product the City shall accept.
OPTICOM SIGNAL PHASE SELECTION SYSTEM
The optical signal phase selection system (preempt) components supplied and installed
shall be the Tomar Strobecom II or 3M Opticom Brand for purposes of compatibility with
existing equipment. The optical signal detection and phase selection system shall be
dual priority design (high priority called by high frequency emitter signals and low priority
called by low frequency emitter signals). The preempt system shall include load
switches and other related equipment needed for a future operational preempt lamp
indication, that shall be activated only when the controller unit is under preempt control.
During normal operation, the preempt lamp indication shall remain dark. Optical
detector cable shall be installed without splices" between the detector (or receiver) and
controller cabinet.
CONTROLLER CABINET
The controller cabinet used on this project shall be a Naztec Type 2.
LED LENSES
The City requires that all LED lenses be GE Gelcore LED lenses.
POWER SERVICE
Pedestal mounted power service equipment shall be installed for this project. The buss
for the equipment shall be capable of handling the No.4 AWG service wire provided by
the City service provider (Texas-New Mexico Electric).
The City's service provider will be responsible for bringing the necessary service wiring
and cables to the back of the pedestal service unit. The Contractor will provide a 3-inch
conduit from the existing Texas-New Mexico Electric Transformer to the proposed
pedestal mounted power service.
VIDEO IMAGE VEHICLE DETECTION SYSTEM
The City requires that the VIVO system be supplied by Autoscope and that the system
be capable of vehicular traffic counting.
The location of the setback detection areas shall be as indicated on the TxDOT
Standard Detail sheet VDZ-OS (DAL).
PEDESTRIAN SIGNALS
2
The pedestrian signals for this project shall have count down capabilities.
PEDESTAL POLE FOUNDATION
Pole T3 is a pedestal pole to be located in the southeast corner of Highland Drive and
Denton Tap Road. The foundation for this pedestal pole shall conform to a TxDOT 36-A
(36" x 12') foundation in order to accommodate a future mast arm and pole. The base
plate of the pedestal pole shall be constructed to accommodate the anchor bolts and
template of the 36-A foundation (1-3/4" diameter anchor bolts with a 19-inch bolt circle).
See TxDOT Standard Detail Sheet TS-FD-99 for the detailed foundation data.
HARMONIC DAMPENING DEVICES
Wind wings as approved by the engineer shall be installed on each mast arm included
in this project.
