Two City Roads Get
Reconstruction Okay

0'1.' According to Coppell City
.J\f. Council action Tuesday night,
,.. two roads will soon undergo re-
construction. The City awarded
a bid in the amount of
$100,221.75, budgeted in the In-
frastructure Maintenance Fund,
for reconstruction of Kimbel
Kourt, in northeast C;:oppell. The
bid' was awarded to Jim Bow-
man Construction Company.
~ The Council also agreed to
close South Coppell Road begin-
ing in mid-July to through traf-
'1JJ fic from 400 feet south of Bethel
~ 0' Road to Southwestern Boule-
'/' vard to facilitate reconstruction
of that section of South Coppell
Road. City Engineer Ken Grif-
fin said that closing the road al-
together would result in a
$40,000-plus savings in recon-
struction cost.
The project consists of the re-
construction of the existing two-
lane asphalt road to a concrete
roadway, on-street parking along
a portion of the road, and storm
drain improvements. The project
is slated to be complete in the
spring of201O.

In other action, the Council:
· Approved a resolution granting
a variance of 300 feet to
Walgreen Co. from the 300-foot'
prohibited requirement to a busi-
ness selling or offering for sale.

Roberto Gets Repair Reprieve
Old Coppell Concept Plan Due in August

The Coppell City Council
Tuesday agreed to allow
Roberto Beas to extend his
lease at Beas Automotive Re-
pair in old downtown until July
31, 2009. The large garage was
part of an eminent domain pro-
ceeding and now belongs to the
City. The building will soon be
demolished, along withCoppell
Auto Center, for City develop-

explained that the City was ad-
dressing environmental issues on
the property, and the action would
"give Beas more time to relocate
his garage. He will not be in our
way." The City has helped pro-
vide lease suggestions to Beas,
according to Mindi Hurley, City
Economic Dcv~lopment director.
Phillips also announced that
the City would bring forward an
old Coppell Concept Plan during
a regular meeting in August to

est collection of original paint-
ings by the famed American
illustrator Norman Rockwell.
The paintings are but one of "
many attractions at the presti-
gious National Scouting Mu-
seum, located in Irving at 1329
