DR 2015-09-29 LB MEMORANDUM TO: Library Board FROM: Victoria A. Chiavetta, Director of Library Services DATE: September 29, 2015 SUBJECT: The library has been reopened now for three weeks and although we still have some adapting to do, staff has settled into the temporary facility and is working through a change in workflow. We now pick up books every day from the book return at Town Center. We keep holds behind the desk due to space limitations and we accept materials at the desk for check in. Along with adjusting to new processes, staff is also getting used to working together in a smaller space and doing a fine job of it. The best part though, is that there has been excellent support from the community, which goes a long way towards making this transition easier. Many folks have commented that the Fire Library reminds them of a small town library and that seems to make people happy. We also have an official contract with Byrne Construction to get the project started. As of yesterday, there is a construction trailer on the site and security fencing should be going the beginning of a new phase of our long awaited expansion Workload Indicators Much of September was spent on getting adapted to our new home. As we prepared for opening, the staff organized the work spaces, decorated the program room, set up what furniture we have room for, installed the public computers and spent hours making sure the books were shelved properly. Some of the smaller collections were relocated as books were shifted throughout the library. The library was quite busy the first week we re-opened with a huge amount of books returned and customers returning for holds and new materials. Check in became the focus of attention during that first week. Attendance is t have study and meeting space. Programs th Story times and book clubs resumed the week of September 14. The program room has been full for story times and Got Books was well attended this month. Coppell Reads book My Life in France was read aloud at the Friends North Texas Giving Day Read-a-Thon.
