Dear Mr. Casteel:
re: Overhead Telephone Cable on Van Bebber Drive, Coppell
At its meeting tonight, the Planning and Zoning Commission will consider granting a special use
permit to reopen the old Stop and Go, at Van Bebber and Denton Tap, as a Texaco station. In
reviewing the site plan staff took note of 5 existing utility poles surrounding the half-acre site
and questioned the necessity for so many.
Instead of placing the electric service line underground along the east property line, as staff has
suggested, the applicant has volunteered to participate in getting the overhead telephone cable
located in the Van Bebber right-of-way placed underground. We believe the Commission will
agree to this proposal.
My reason for contacting you is to explore further enhancements by inquiring if there is any great
need for the telephone cable to be overhead along the entire length of Van Bebber Drive.
Apparently it was placed there when TU Electric had its facilities on the south side of the street.
However, TU has since relocated its lines to the north side.
I know that this is too short of notice to have a response for tonight's Commission meeting, but I
would appreciate having your reaction to the prospect of undergrounding this entire line
sometime prior to the City Council hearing on the matter scheduled for November 10. As
always, we appreciate your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Pert Virtanen
