The Coppell Zoning Ordinance requires a minimum of 20' between the door of a required rear-entry
garage and the rear property line. This results in space for cars to pull off the alley in front of the
garage door, keeping cars from blocking the alley. Carports, however, usually have no door and
therefore are less likely to be used for purposes which displace car parking space. Also, garage door
openers are now commonplace. With a garage door opener the home occupant is less likely to park
cars outside the garage.
