AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE
EXHIBIT "B"
RELATING TO ACCESSORY STRUCTURES
(CARPORTS & GARAGES)

REQUEST: Amend Exhibit "B" of Ordinance No. 91500-A-104 to add specific
provisions regarding the construction of storage buildings, carports
and garages.
DISCUSSION: A special committee studied the area, met and discussed possible
recommendations. A preliminary report of the committee
consensus is attached.
Staff greatly appreciates the time and energy this group devoted to
the evaluation of the issues involved and its prompt response.
From a technical standpoint, we have only one observation to make
regarding the recommendations. It concerns permitting garage
doors within 15 feet of the alley pavement.
We agree that 15 feet, plus 10 feet of alley pavement width,
accommodates a radius adequate for an average car to make a 90 o
turn from the alley prior to entering the garage. However, it is not
adequate if half the driveway is occupied by another car. We
realize that space is limited in this section of Woodridge. We
simply point out the potential problem.
On the other hand, many of the lots in PD-145 just barely have 30
feet of depth available in the rear yard for an attached garage.
Increasing the setback from the alley would reduce by half the
number of potential future garages.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff supports the proposed amendments.
