Comment #3: Referring to Note #A on Committee Comments, 'Should applicant disagree with staff comments please provide reasons why staff recommendations, should not be followed' ...... Attached is my letter of disagreement with the use of masonry on this structure. Comm~.nt Exterior building materials (siding, paint colors, and roof shingles) have been supplied to Committee. Comment #5: I have the Zoning Change request sign and will place it on site when new dates are given. 'Date: September 20, 1999 To: City of Coppell Planning and Zoning From: Patricia VanDeusen Subject: Project WoodRidge'Section 5 Carport Building Request 130 Pinyon Lane First, I would like to apologize for the delay on my side of completing this project review. I unfortunately had two deaths in my family with two weeks of each other in the month of August and was unable to concentrate on an)c. hing else. I have reviewed the staffwxitten comments by the Planning Department. It appears that there is only one outstanding issue to resolve in order for the approval of the addition ora carport to my property. That one issue is the masonry requirement. I understand the current regulations in regard to this issue. We have already agreed that since 47% of the main structure is covered in brick that to be aesthetically consistent that any additional structures should be the same. The company ! am using to build this carport is Tuff Shed. Their buildings are made of wood, have an enclosed utiliW area at front of carport, have shingle roofs, and are painted to match the house. This is the best looking carport I have seen in my search to have something to cover my car from the weather. But, they are made entirely of wood. They do not provide any masonry work. This would mean the additional cost on my part to contract someone to do this work. I have thought about this issue over the weekend. And, I do not agree with the Committee's decision to have to place brick on this building. Listed below are some of the things I thought of that brought me to that decision: 1. If I was adding a small utility shed to my propel'ty, from my' understanding, there would be no need for a permit, so that building can be metal only, which does not go by this regulations. 2. The back of the house is completely wood and to add a building that has brick in my opinion will not make it look 'beautiful'. It will do just the opposite .... it just does not go with the look of the back of the house. 3. I have never, to my knowledge, seen a carport that has brick on it. If this structure was a garage, I could understand that regulation, but this is a carport. In addition to this, I have received calls from other residents that live in this Woodridge Division when the letter went out to all about the Zoning change I was trying to make in order to build a carport. I would be interested in knowing how many residents responded to this letter. I have a feeling many people in this division would like to do the same thing I am attempting, but have given up because the City made it too difficult with these regulations to build a carport on their property. Residents only want to improve their property, and they are feeling that the City does not want to work with us .... maybe we are 'too small' to be bothered with, since our single family dwellings no longer comply with Coppell's code as the size ora single family dwelling.., it is not big enough. I am only tr~4ng to improve the look of my properq' and I am being fought by regulations, which I understand, but in this case I think a reconsideration is in order. I look around at my back alley at other residents and see ears on blocks that have been sitting that way for over two years, utility sheds that are completely rusted on the outside, car parts laying all around a back driveway where someone has completely dismantled their vehicle. I see nothing being done for these eye sores, yet I am trying to make my property look better and am being fought by 'current regulations'. I would like to know what steps I need to take to be allowed to have this carport build, within all the other City regulations, other than the need of putting brick on this structure. I am thanking you ahead of time for considering a request from one of your City residents.
