The Honorable Tom Morton
City of Coppell
P. O. Box 478
Coppell, Texas 75019
Dear Mayor Morton:
Please allow me to address an agenda item slated for tonight's City Council Meeting. "Item G" describes
a zoning change request, allowing development of a 46 lot, single-family residential subdivision north of
Parkway Blvd. and east of Coppell Road. Although this property is situated well outside the 65 LDN noise
contour, it is located on Runway 17L/35R center line extension, approximately 5. I nautical miles from
the north end of the runway.
Based upon the number of D/FVv' Hot Line noise calls received from that area of Coppell since opening
of Runway 17L/35R, it is D/FW International Airport's recommendation that single family homes,
hospitals, schools and church facilities are not constructed on this site, or any site under the flight path,
from this locale southward to the Airport. To do so will only exacerbate the noise problem. D/FW
International Airport does not have any legal authority outside the 65 LDN noise contour, however, we
wish to raise the City's awareness to future noise problems looming on the horizon for this new
proposed development.
This is a good opportunity for the City to show leadership in defusing a very sensitive issue.
If you or any of your staff have any questions or require additional information, please contact me. As
always, it is a pleasure working with the City of Coppell to prevent any future noise related concerns.
