Dear Mr. Anderson:
I have been holding your October 27 letter in which you suggest changing a street name in
Chaucer Estates from Dickens Drive to Ottinger Drive, until after the City Council deliberated
the merits of several street name changes we took to Council on November 10.
At the November 10th meeting, Council made it very clear that they will no longer entertain
naming streets after individual persons. That being the direction council wishes to take, I am
sorry to inform you that we can not honor your request for re-naming.
I would also like to state that Council has asked us to review the street naming policies of
several surrounding communities and conduct a workshop to possibly alter the existing policies
we employ regarding our entire street naming procedure.
Although I personally feel the Dickens Drive name is more appropriate to the overall theme of
Chaucer Estates, nonetheless, Council has given me clear direction to not process any street
names that reflect personal and individual preferences.
