Construction must meet UFC, 1994 edition; UFC Standards, 1994 edition; UBC 1994 edition;
applicable NFPA and ADA standards. Additional comments below.
A. Address/Street Names/Apartment Numbers:

C. Fire Alarm System:
System must meet NFPA 72/72 A standards.
1 ) If required, Fire Alarm panel must indicate type and location of alarm.
2) Alarm must meet ADA requirements.
3) Alarm plans must be submitted for approval to Fire Marshal prior to installation.
4) Central Station must obtain an alarm permit from Coppell Police Department.
5) Alarm requires acceptance and approval prior to Certificate of Occupancy.
6) Fire alarm panel and pull station keys provided for Knox Box.
D. Sprinkler system:
System must meet NFPA standards.
1 ) Sprinkler system plans must be submitted to Fire Marshal prior to installation.
2) Underground and overhead hydrostatic tests require 24 hour notice to Rre Marshal.
3) System must be designed and approved by a licensed Fire Protection Engineer.
4) ESFR system are encouraged. Vents and Draft curtains requirements are reduced with these
systems. ~
5) All valves and gauges to be labeled.
6) FDC shall be located within 50 feet of an approved hydrant
7) FDC shall be located not closer than 3 feet or further than 6 feet from the street or fire lane
8) FDC shall not be located on the exterior wall of the building
E. Standpipe System:
1 ) Class III standpipes are required in all Occupancies less than 4 stories in height but greater than
20,000 square feet per floor.
2) A single FDC shall feed the Sprinkler System and the Standpipe System
F. Hood Extinguishing System:
Not requried unless commercial cooking equipment is u,ed or required.
1) Hood Shall meet NFPA 96 standards.
2) Hood extinguishing system shall meet NFPA stsnclards.
3) Hood system test required prior to Certificate of Occupancy. Contact Fire Marshal 24 hours in
advance for test.
G. Fire Hydrant Requirements:
1 ) Fire hydrants must be in and accepted prior to framing.
H. Fire Extinguisher Requirements:
Must meet NFPA 10 standards.
1) A minimum of one 2A:10BC portable fire extinguisher shall be provided within 75 "walking
feet" of all parts of this building.
I. Key Box Requirements:
1 ) A "Knox Box" key box is required for this facility. Cont, et the Fire M,rsh=l's office for
information.
J. Other Comments:
None
Fire Lane Standards
A. Construction
1) Fire Lanes shall be constructed of an all-weather driving surface having a capability to support a
40,000 pound vehicle.
2) Fire Lanes shall be a minimum of 24-feet in width (inside stripe to inside stripe).
3) A minimum 'of 14-fset of clear height shall be available above all fire lanes.
4) Dead-end Fire Lanes shall not exceed 50-feet.
5) When it is not possible to connect a Fire Lane at both ends to a dedicated street,
approved turn-around installations shall be provided.
6) All Fire Lanes turns shall have a minimum of a 30-foot inside turn radius and a 50-foot outside
turn radius.
B. Marking
When part of the private road is selected as a Fire Lane, it is marked along the perimeter with
conspicuous signs which have the words ' FIRE LANE - NO PARKING' painted:
1) In four inch high white letters
2) At 15-foot intervals
3) On a contrasting 6' wide, Red background
Where practical, Rre Lanes markings shall be required to be placed on the curb.
C. Collapse Zone Exclusion
On buildings where the Fire Chief determines that a building collapse potential is present, the Fire
Chief may determine that the Fire Lane be so located that the building walls are distanced at least
one and one-half times (1.5) the height of the building from the closest point of the Fire Lane.
Fire Hydrant Standards
A. Spacing
1 ) Fire Hydrants shall be spaced at 300 foot intervals along the length of public streets or fire
lanes. Fire hydrants in single family areas must not exceed 600 feet spacing along the street.
2) Fire hydrants shall not be located closer than 3-feet or further than 6-feet from streets or fire
lane.
3) Fire hydrant base flange shall not be placed lower than 3 inches above finished grade. Pumper
outlet nut shall not be lower than 18 inches above finished grade nor higher than 20 inches above
finished grade.
4) All fire hydrants shall be painted by the developer:
Fire hydrants installed in accordance with City standards, within easements and accepted by the
city shall be painted yellow. ( Sherwin-Williams # B54Y37 or equal )
Private hydrants or those hydrants supplied through or by a fire pump shall be painted
red. (Sherwin-Williams # B54R38 or equal )
5) Reflective (blue) fire hydrant spotters shall be installed on the streets at a point opposite fire
hydrants, located along the centerline of the street, closest to fire hydrant. When fire hydrants are
located at intersecting comers, blue spotters shall
be placed on both streets.
6) Fire hydrants shall have two (2) 2-1/2" and one (1) 4-112" outlet.
7) Dead-End Water Unes:
Dead-End water lines serving fire hydrants and fire protection systems are discouraged. The
following standards shall be considered mimimum main sizes and lengths:
a) One hydrant, maximum 150 feet - 6 inch main
b) One hydrant, maximum 500 feet - 8 inch main
c) One hydrant and Fire Sprinkler System, maximum 150 feet - 8 inch main
d) One hydrant and fire sprinkler system, maximum 500 feet - 10 inch main
e) Two hydrants, maximum 500 feet - 10 inch main
f) Three Hydrants, maximum 500 feet - 10 inch main
g) Three Hydrants or two hydrants and fire sprinkler system - not permitted
