Re: Planned StOneleigh at Riverchase apartment complex
Dear Mayor Morton:
We are extremely concerned about the traffic flow and property value implications of the Stoneleigh at
Riverchase apartment complex that has been proposed for the 20 acre site east of MacArthur on
Riverchase.
We strongly feel that the increased traffic congestion resulting from the existing large apartment complex
just north of the MacArthur-Riverchase intersection should preclude any further high-density housing
development in the immediate area such as the proposed Stoneleigh at Riverchase apartment complex. The
intersection at Riverchase and MacArthur streets is already an extremely dangerous traffic bottleneck.
Further such development as that proposed at the Stoneleigh at Riverchase could threaten the lives of the
many area residents who have to use these streets regularly. In addition, any such additional development
would require that the long-time platted Fairway Drive to connect Riverchase with Beltline Road be
completed. The opening up of this new artery would make Riverchase a heavily traveled shortcut between
Betttine Road and Sandy Lake Road. This greatly increased traffic flow would create a hazard to the
residents of Riverchase Estates, Fairways of Riverchase, and Eagle Point at Riverchase.
We therefore request that you block the effort to pursue the Stoneleigh at Riverchase and other such high
density housing developments on the land on Riverchase east of MacAnhur.
Sincerely,
Richard Sontheimer, M.D.
