Subject: Chili's Sign
Per your request, I researched the Chili's Sign and the other signs in that Retail Center.
I spoke with Mark Matise, the owner/leasing agent for the property. He assured me that the Chili's sign is
in compliance with the SUP (being Fresco Cream), and the other signs he assumed were in compliance
with the City' s Requirements, i.e white channel letters, and given that the tenants received permits for
them. Candidly, he said that at this point, he would not be willing to request that his tenants order new
signs with Fresco Cream letters.
I then spoke with Mike Hodge. He too confirmed that all the signs were in compliance with the City
regulations, but he was not aware that we had made the interpretation that all signs needed to be "fresco
cream" because the note on the original site plan just stated that "all tenant signage shall be of channel
type construction in designated signage areas and are permitted to have a lens color allowed by
the signage ordinance and consistent with color scheme selected by the owner of the property"
Once again, there was a communication issue. To avoid this problem in the future, Mike and I discussed
that all sign permits in retail shopping areas be forwarded to the Planning Department for review prior to
the issuance of a Building Permit.
Please advise,
Marcie
