My arborist completed the attached inspection field report of the trees along Ruby Road and generated the attached revised landscaping site plan. Below is the link to the tree photos and the article referenced in the field report. I will be happy to meet someone onsite to go over any specifics. Please let me know if you would like my arborist to attend. In summary, the trees are planted densely along Ruby Road in accordance with the original design/intent. Now that the trees have matured, removing the dead/dying/struggling trees would not detract from the initial goal of a dense buffer between this site and the residential properties. It would encourage it. Replacing the trees, recommended for removal, would actually hurt the chances that we can maintain an aesthetically pleasing natural barrier. We want to encourage the large, fuller trees to continue to grow and maintain the boundary. We will accomplish this by allowing room for adequate canopy and root growth. https://d u I<erea Itv- my.sharepoint.com/:f:/p/cwalters/EtlgnQXoeRFPs1LfN1149FgB8aPEGnkwL4NxAZfP9Nl6Ag?e=den6QE Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide for an approval to remove these trees without the customary replacement requirement. Arborist: Jacob Juszczak Contact: Christy Walters License: #TX -3765A Location: 500 Freeport Pkwy. Reason for Inspection: Tree Inspection for City Code Enforcement The Bartlett Tree Experts inspected the trees located on the north side of the Container Store building at 500 Freeport Pkwy. in Coppell, TX along Ruby Rd. The reason for the inspection was to identify which of the Austrian pines planted along Ruby Rd. need to be removed and determine whether or not the total remaining trees are enough of a buffer to satisfy city requirements. The Austrian pines were assessed by health and viability as well as their relevance in relation to where they were planted. Sixteen of the pines inspected were completely dead and therefore removal was recommended. Many of the pines that died looked to have underdeveloped root systems from poor planting procedures i.e. being planted too close together and too much competition for soil nutrients, water and sunlight. The stress from the weak root systems made them susceptible to seridium canker and bark beetles which eventually killed them. Although no samples were sent to the lab, the likelihood of root decay is also very high. The remaining 16 recommended removals were marked for removal because they are nearly dead or will be dead. Many of the pines were planted too close to the larger oaks and elms on the property and are now being completely shaded by the larger tree's canopy. Austrian pines are a shade intolerant species and the canopy coverage is causing them to decline. They have no where to continue to grow and they are not getting sufficient sun light. These trees are recommended to be removed because they are too far in decline to save and they will not receive sufficient sun light without sacrificing the health of the adjacent tree. The total caliper inches calculated for the area inspected was 1,391 caliper inches. The total caliper inches in Austrian pines recommended for removal was 156 caliper inches. This is 1 3ARTLETT BARTLETT TREE EXPERTS 11376 Kline Dr. Dallas, TX 75229 (972) 620-0073 (FAX) 620-2932 www.bartlett.com approximately 11% of the total caliper inches in that area and the remaining caliper inches after removal is 1,235 inches. It is not recommended that the property is replanted with more trees to replace the Austrian pines that will be removed. Many of the trees that are currently planted along Ruby Rd. are already encroaching on one another and do not have enough space to develop their respective canopies and roots. Replanting Austrian pines is not advised because they will only be "shaded" by the larger trees again and likely decline in the future. Much of the open space that is currently available or will be available after removals is not sufficient for large tree planting. There are power lines that run the length of Ruby Rd. and the power company has already had to significantly prune back the existing trees to maintain their clearance away from their power lines. Any newly planted trees will be destined for failure due to the inevitable harsh pruning from the power companies to maintain their power lines. In another 10 years the existing trees along Ruby Rd. will likely be too much for that area and selective removals would likely be beneficial. Research has shown that one tree with a full healthy canopy and the proper amount of space for growth provides better carbon sequestration and is better for the environment overall than multiple trees planted too close together. A tree with more space will also have a better chance of reaching maturity, improving property aesthetics and value. Tree mortality should be expected due to competition and poor habitat conditions on a commercial site. Photos of the trees recommended for removal are provided with this report to illustrate the reasons for the recommendation. It has been noted that a large concern for the city is the screening of the property from the neighbouring property on the north side of Ruby Rd. The photos should show that even with the removal of the identified trees there will be a sufficient screen and buffer for the neighbouring property. If there are further questions about the recommendations in this report please feel free to contact Jacob Juszczak at 832-523-2260. 2 g]Illllllllllllljallf1191111';]Ilillllillti]IE!i111111111G' wl a ' ,+esas-anvvsYyse , vfaaz+ wxunayaA ertcrrnr rr.d os ks J?t x,9 COR' :f ,I NV Id 3dVOSONd a g ° 0 tml 6109L SVXdl `113dd00 4! !a AVAD9lVd WOcf33W 009 AVM>INVd 1NOd3383 1V HLNON 180d3383 .(a d e Z { EI a++ md"" X DJOd3383 f4 i
