Response 71 Matt Steer From:Rachelle Clack <rachelleclack8@gmail.com> Sent:Tuesday, March 9, 2021 4:58 PM To:CITYSEC Subject:Opposed to zoning request for Smoothie King To Whom it May Concern, I am rushing to gather my thoughts here as it has been brought to my attention that a vote on this matter is scheduled to occur within the hour. As a business owner myself I know first hand the pros and cons to having competitors in your proximity. However, in a small town such as Coppell, some competition can be detrimental to a business. I am writing in support of Smoothie Factory and requesting that the zoning change for Smoothie King be denied. I question if the demand can even support multiple smoothie vendors especially with product offerings that are incredibly similar. Having both in such close proximity would run the risk of neither business being profitable enough in the long run to keep their doors open; this would be a lost for all of us in the end. And not to mention there’s a Smoothie King only a few miles away just outside the city limits at 634/BeltLine. Additionally, I have been a regular customer of Smoothie Factory for many years and during that time have come to personally know the owners, their family, and some of their employees. I know how they have embraced the community and even added a kids menu after many parents requested kid-size healthy snack options. I know firsthand the challenges of the seasonality of the business and the impact the pandemic has compounded. I am asking that you give this family, this business a chance to not only recover but to then continue on a successful trajectory. Furthermore, I would like to point towards the potential traffic congestion and challenges in this space, especially after school hours and during rush hour. This potential rise in congestion in the proposed space also raises concerns regarding our many middle and high school students walking home through that corridor. During the pandemic, we have seen a few Coppell treasures close their doors permanently. It pains me to think that we could potentially lose another. Please deny the request for Smoothie King!
