HISTORY:
On September 19, 1991 City Council granted a special use permit for the
existing 75' monopole antenna and the 441 square foot equipment cabinet.
Originally the antenna was owned by Metrocel and recently, AT&T
acquired Metrocel.
TRANSPORTATION:
Beltline Road is shown on the thoroughfare plan as a P6D and is
scheduled for construction by Dallas County, but currently is a 2-
lane asphalt roadway contained within a 120'-wide right-of-way.
We understand the County will be building a 4-lane divided
thoroughfare, with construction beginning in 1997.

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN:
The Comprehensive Plan shows the property suitable for
light industrial and showroom type of uses.
DISCUSSION:
Staff encourages and supports the placement of two new communications
antenna of approximate 2 s.f. in size to be mounted on an existing
monopole. The size of the proposed equipment cabinet is somewhat
bothersome to staff. Although it is half the size of the existing cabinet,
staff questions the need to have a second. The applicant has explained to
staff the necessity of the structure, although the 10' x 22' size is still
bothersome. In addition, the applicant will have to abide by the masonry
requirement of the zoning ordinance. The aluminum structure is not
acceptable and it must be of either brick, stone or concrete.
RECOMMENDATION TO THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION:
Staff recommends approval of the special use permit conditioned upon the equipment cabinet
being brick, stone or precast concrete. We would prefer elimination of the second cabinet
altogether and utilizing the existing structure for all base equipment. If that can not occur, then
the proposed building needs to be as small as possible.
